Breaking Down Barriers: Observations of In-Person and Online Gender Identity

A place for your subtitle 1

In the 1990s, tearing down gender barriers typically happened in person. Women marched for equal rights, LGBTQ people came out to friends and family, and gender non-conforming individuals expressed themselves through fashion and community organizing. The work of breaking down gender norms was intimate, risky, and powerful. It required vulnerable face-to-face conversations, demonstrations in the streets, and pioneering cultural shifts in schools, workplaces, and homes.

Elon Musk and His Twitter Echo Chamber

A place for your subtitle 1

Elon's trying to make Twitter into something most folks don't want. He's trapped in an echo chamber, only hearing his own voice bounce back at him. Buying Twitter for $44 billion was a controversial move from the start. Elon thinks he can turn it into a "super app" like China's WeChat, where you can tweet, message, pay bills, shop, play games, and everything in one spot. But that's just not how most Twitter users roll.

The Bug Out Bag and Prepping for Bad Shit

A place for your subtitle 1

The other day I was purging items around the house and was also starting to organize my home for an upcoming move. This “cleanse” got me to thinking about just how much stuff we have lying around the house that we forget about. I’m personally a very tidy person, but even I found that I had multiples of the same items, from personal hygiene products to clothes and household items. My fall purge also got me planning the various stages of my move and because my mind tends to drift, I started thinking what a pain it would be if I had to gather items from around the house in a mad dash because of an emergency. Then the reality of how unprepared I was dawned on me.

It Turns Out People Do Care About Your Social Posts

A place for your subtitle 1

No one is watching your every move. Well, maybe Big Brother is, and maybe the person that’s got a serious crush/obsession with you is. But the real truth is that unless you’re really famous, no one really cares if your latest Instagram would have looked better with a different filter, and people certainly don't care that your last picture was taken without the use of one. Social media has turned us into intensely self-conscious groups of smartphone-wielding drones. Every update, photo, tweet, and blog post (even this one) is crafted with a keen sense of self-perception, as posting something on the Internet is never personal, no matter how strong your privacy settings might be.

Take Back Control - It's Your Device and Your Data After All

A place for your subtitle 1

We all know how important it is to protect our computers from hackers and viruses these days. Stories of identity theft and bank fraud are everywhere. Well, the same goes for our phones and mobile devices too. Most of us don't think twice before downloading some new app that seems fun or handy. But we really should be more careful because those apps could be trouble in disguise.

The Good, the Bad, the Ugly of Holiday Travelers

A place for your subtitle 1

They say that traveling brings out the worst in people. I don't necessarily agree with that belief. I think for the most part, we are who we are and that situations simply exacerbate certain aspects of our personalities that were already there - be they good or bad. I travel quite a lot and have seen and witnessed the good, the bad, and the ugly when it comes to how people behave when they travel, and nothing surprises me – hence why I decided to post Johnny Branddibble's list of do's and dont's as you travel over the holiday season.

If You Don't Own Your Personal Brand, Who Will?

A place for your subtitle 1

There's a lot of hype out there about personal brand and to be totally honest I didn't buy into it at first. But the truth is, with so many of us posting information about ourselves online (whether it's for work or play) using a vast array of social media technology, you can't escape not thinking about it. I've talked to a lot of people about this topic and one thing we agree on is that our personal brand goes far beyond an onlne reputation.

The Stupid Selfie Snapper

A place for your subtitle 2

There is a backlash against selfies that’s taking hold today and it’s not just from people who are sick and tired of seeing hundreds of self-promoting pics of well …. nothing. In recent years, several organizations ranging from private for profit companies to tourist destinations have implemented measures to control the stupid selfie snapper. In recent years Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland took the lead from Disney’s U.S.-based theme parks by banning selfie sticks. The Sistine Chapel in Italy and Palace Museum in Beijing have also banned them. The Coachella music festival in California, and the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, have banned them too. In fact, Coachella’s rules echo the results of the latest survey by LendEdu: “No Selfie Sticks/No Narcissists.”

Branding the Pirated Video Stream

A place for your subtitle 3

Disruptive technology - we've all heard the term before. It shakes up industries and forces companies to toss out their old business models and strategies. The music biz knows this well. The move to digital has totally transformed the industry. Fans have ditched CDs for downloads and streams. They connect with artists online, not in record stores. Let the Sunshine In - remember this song? We decided to do a re-write of this oldie but goodie - with a modern twist. What makes this re-write interesting is how the meaning of the original version gets updated with a just a few tweaks. It's amazing how tiny updates to key sections can result is such a vast transformation. We've still maintaining the original integrity of the piece but now, it provides an ironic critical commentary on the world today. Much like the song's purpose when it was first released, we hope you spot our tiny changes aimed at questioning our world, our beliefs and latest events...
